This was a significant event as it had earlier featured the first appearance of the Class in Devon, a highly commendable feat thus finally achieved by the Organiser. Copyright Colin J. Marsden

Looking at this Photograph it brings it Home to me just how much we have lost from our rail system.I am a native of Hartlepool and the Deltics were infrequent visitors, but nevertheless they did "all" visit the Town on numerous occasions.I remember this old view of our Railway Station. The twin lines to the left are the freight avoiding lines which the very numerous Coal trains used to use.Although mainly they were routed through the Station. The class 37s were a constant feature of the Town and quite a few were always held over at the stabling point.Seeing Tulyar like this is both a happy and sad way to remember these brilliant Locomotives, I have seen Tulyar in service too many times to list.I am so glad the old girl made it into preservation. Also the way Hartlepool is now is a mere shadow of what it was here. Most of the time it's like a Ghost station. The new types of DMUs are very good but they lack the charm and the charisma of a true Loco-hauled train like the one pictured here. Thanks for uploading the brilliant Photo.

The shot "An up service (probably 0950 Edinburgh - Plymouth)..." in the Miscellaneous album is 55019. Proven by the layout of lettering on the nameplate and numbers a each end (19 was the only regiment to have this)

Another person was also present on the Up platform recording these scenes that morning 30 years ago but despite various efforts locally he has not yet been traced. Can you help?..

What brilliant Photographs of a really great Day.I can remember the inaugural "Silver Jubilee" as it was even on the North East News (and believe me it really took something special to stir those old stick in Muds up!!).At the time I did not have a clue that this was to be the very last Top Link honour bestowed upon the Deltics,I thought as a Kid these Locomotives would go on forever,as if they were immortal. However the Sleek Yellow and Blue of the HST was tapping the Deltics on the Shoulder and they could not compete with the new timings. This day though will stay with me for-ever,I was 13 years old and Deltic crazy.

Hello, I may have found your missing photographer.Take a look at a new book called 'Seventies Spotting Days around the Eastern region' published by strathwood publishing. On page 87 There is photo from the same day and same location by 'John Dawson'. Great photos by the way!

I remember this day like it was yesterday. This prestigous Train was made a fuss of in all the local BBC and ITV local programmes like Look North.I was born and bred in the North East and I can remember the News Cameras turning up at Darlington Station to record 55 012 heading north, and 55 022 heading south. This was the last big haulage honour bestowed upon the Deltics before those dreadful screaming H.S.T.s took their top link status away from them.Looking back we were unconcerned as we were only kids and we didn't really think the Deltics were vulnerable to anything. This changed when I saw that St Paddy and Nimbus had been withdrawn.Luckily I had got St Paddy for haulage in 1976 and 77 when she was in fact hauling the Silver Jubilee.Great photo's of a great era. Thanks for posting them, the memories they bring flooding back are priceless.

This "was" a real day to remember!!.I can also remember 55 022 doing the Southbound leg, Haymarket had her bulled up to the nines just like FP had Crepello. This was the last ever honour bestowed on these great Locomotives and we are very much the poorer now their like have gone.R.I.P Crepello you were a true great,we miss them so much don't we??.
